The town of Manlius is an eastern suburb of Syracuse. It is on the east border of Onondaga County and Madison County, New York, marked by Chittenango Creek. DeWitt is to the west and the town of Pompey is to the south.

Formerly, the town was a township of Central New York Military Tract and the name was given by a clerk who had an interest in classics. The town was created in 1794 and the most significant development of town came through the formation of Erie Canal.

Limestone and Butternut Creeks form a Junction in the northern part of the town and emptying into Chittenango Creek, which forms the northeastern boundary of the town. Limestone enters the town on its southern boundary in two branches, the East and West, the eastern branch passing through the Village. Some of the most picturesque and beautiful scenery in the county can be found in Manlius. North of village is Green Lakes State Park.

The Deep Spring of Indian is situated on the county line about 3.5 miles east of the village. Not only is it a natural curiosity, but an historical site. Close by can be found the Indian trail from the Oneidas to the Onondagas. Before the advent of non-Native Americans it was the first road laid out in the county.

Parks and recreations

The Town of Manlius includes a recreation building that hosts art programs and also has a gymnasium, an auditorium, three play ground structure sites, a fishing pond, a fish hatchery and three parks. Green Lakes State Park is just the other side of the Fayetteville/Manlius proper with plenty of recreational choices including a beach, golf course, picnicking, walking trails and of course canoeing and kayaking. Bird watching can be done in the local wildlife sanctuary. You’ll enjoy watching many of the local and migrating birds.
